The steps for fixing gypsum board on the wall are as follows, suitable for most indoor partition or wall renovation scenarios:
1. Preparation work
Materials: gypsum board, light steel keel (or wooden keel), drywall screws (length selected according to keel thickness, usually 3.5cm), anti rust paint, joint tape, and sealant.
Tools: electric drill, screwdriver head, laser level, tape measure, cutting knife, goggles, gloves.
2. Install the keel (if it is a new wall or needs to be leveled)
Lightgage Steel Joist:
Fix the sky and earth keel to the ground and top surface with expansion bolts.
Insert the vertical keel into the sky and earth keel at a spacing of 40-60cm, adjust the verticality, and fix it.
Wooden keel:
Wooden blocks (such as 3 × 4cm) need to be coated with fireproof paint and fixed into a frame with air nails or screws.
3. Fixed gypsum board
Direct fixation method (applicable to wooden base or existing keel):
Starting from one side of the wall, align the edge of the gypsum board with the keel or wooden square.
Use drywall screws to fix along the centerline of the keel, with a spacing of about 20-30cm. The edge screws should be 1.5-2cm away from the edge of the board.
The screw head is slightly embedded in the gypsum board (about 1mm) to avoid damaging the paper surface too deeply.
Fixed without keel (concrete/brick wall, requiring special treatment):
Use specialized anchor bolts or expansion screws, combined with gypsum board adhesive to enhance bonding.
4. Seam and rust prevention treatment
Rust prevention: Apply rust proof paint to the screw head to prevent oxidation and yellowing of the board surface.
Seam: Fill the board seam with sealant, paste the seam tape and scrape it flat. After drying, polish it.
5. Precautions
Cutting: Gypsum board needs to be cut with a specialized knife, with neat edges to avoid cracking.
Reserved gap: Leave a 3-5mm gap between the boards to prevent deformation caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
Safety: Wear goggles and a mask to avoid inhaling dust.
6. Finished surface treatment
After polishing, apply primer and topcoat, or decorate with wallpaper.
Tip: If the wall surface is uneven, it is recommended to first install the keel to level it, and then fix the gypsum board to ensure overall flatness. For load-bearing walls or special structures, it is recommended to consult professionals.
